Why Mount Hotham
Mount Hotham is known as the “Skiers Mountain” and boasts the highest permanent alpine village (1750m) second only to smaller Charlotte Pass (1755m) in NSW. With 11 lifts, extensive snow making facilities, Hotham provides a broad range of runs, catering for beginners through to the most advanced skier or boarder.
Travelling to Mt Hotham
You can access Mt Hotham on sealed roads via Harrietville or Omeo. Access via Harrietville is the most common and quickest route for most visitors. Travelling via Omeo is easier and road is less likely to be subject to delays or occasional closures due to weather conditions and heavy snow.
Before departing for Mt Hotham, we recommend checking the latest road conditions on either the Resort’s website or Vicroads Victraffic.
All vehicles (2 & 4 wheel drive) must carry diamond pattern snow chains and fit them when directed.
You can hire chains from Hoys Harrietville ((03)5759 2589) who also offer a FREE mobile chain fitting & removal service on the Harrietville approach. Note that not all vehicles can fit chains. Please contact Hoys, or your chain provider, before departing home to confirm your vehicle can travel up the mountain.
We recommend visiting Mt Hotham website for the latest information on access to the mountain including preparation of your vehicle, alpine diesel, alternate modes of transport, entry permits and chain requirements.
Car parking and unloading
On arrival at the resort in winter, park in the loading zone near Bus Stop 7 (30 min limit) in front of ‘Jack Frost’ restaurant & bar. You can use the B’Rush luggage sled (large red tub on skis) or book Snow Tow service to transport your luggage to the lodge.
After unloading, please move your car to overnight parking areas further down the road towards Dinner Plain. A free village shuttle bus operates all day and extended hours on Friday nights to the overnight car parks. Please refer to the latest Resort Parking Guide.
